Some thoughts before reading

I have a grandson that is autistic. It is heartbreaking at times to watch him struggle, as he is such a wonderful person. What is it like to always struggle in school? What is it like for a parent/grandparent to watch the struggle?

  1. I teach ESE

  2. Anxious to read this book. My son had many learning difficulties in school in the 1970’s. There was little understanding as to his problems and how to help. He finally went to a Friend’s school, which helped with his self esteem, and nurtured him until he could achieve on his own. It’s so difficult in an over achieving world, to cope with such differences

  3. Can you imagine going to a job all day, every day, at which you cannot succeed (in spite of everyone else doing so with ease) or please your “boss” or “co-workers” no matter how hard you try? You would withdraw, act out or quit. Your self-esteem would be in the toilet. This is what it is like for kids with disabilities or, in fact, kids who do not receive the proper preparation for kindergarten. They are doomed from the start unless they have a really understanding boss who can train them. That boss is either a teacher or a parent or, even better, both.
So, as parents, we can either wallow in self-pity or stand up for our kids and take action!
